Another Sussex County Dog Dead In Bloody Bear Attack
For the second time this month, a dog was attacked and killed by a bear in one Sussex County town, authorities said. The Sparta man told police the bear attacked his 5-year-old Yorkie, Tommy, in his Layton Lane backyard around 10 p.m. just after midnight on Thursday, Jan. 20, Sparta Police Lt. John Lamon said. Tommy was outside to go to the bathroom and didn’t return when he was called, Lamon said. It may have been a Good Samaritan or the actual thief -- police don't know -- but someone returned a 5-year-old Yorkie stolen during a Clifton home burglary, authorities said. The Bowdoin Street owner heard a knock at the door and found "L.B." tired to a railing outside with no one around, Sgt. Robert Anderson said. "It appears that the media coverage and assistance from the public on social media certainly contributed to the safe return of this family pet," Anderson said. Someone broke into a Clifton home and swiped a 5-year-old Yorkie, said authorities who sought the public’s help finding him. Nothing else was taken from the Bowdoin Street home during the middle of the day Wednesday – except for “L.B.,” Sgt. Robert Anderson said.
