Firefighters Revive Cats In Lyndhurst House Blaze
Firefighters revived two cats with pet oxygen masks during an early-morning Lyndhurst house fire Wednesday. The kitchen blaze broke out around 2:50 a.m. on the second floor of a Page Avenue home where firefighters found three cats, Lyndhurst fire officials said. Two of the cats required resuscitation and all three were taken by Lyndhurst police to a local animal hospital, the fire department said. An off-duty Ridgewood firefighter escorted an elderly Hackensack woman across the street as a blaze tore through her house Monday morning, authorities said. A cat was rescued and a dog was found dead in the fire that broke out around 11:50 a.m. at 11 Shafer Pl., the Hackensack Fire Department said. City firefighters helped the elderly resident out of her home as the Ridgewood firefighter aided her across the street, Capt. Justin Derevyanik said. Six people were displaced in an early-morning Rutherford house fire ignited by lightning, authorities said. A Rutherford police officer was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation after the Ridge Road fire broke out at 4:31 a.m., Sgt. Kevin Scannell said. Fire companies from Rutherford, East Rutherford, Wallington, Lyndhurst, North Arlingon, Carlstadt and Secaucus responded. Firefighters were still at the scene as of 9:15 a.m., police said. Investigators were trying to determine what ignited a fast-moving fire that destroyed a Wayne home early Tuesday afternoon.
