Historic Paterson Catholic Church Closing Indefinitely
St. Michael Catholic Church in Paterson will be closed indefinitely beginning Friday, March 1, the Diocese of Paterson announced. The church, at 74 Cianci St. was built in 1929 at a cost of $175,000 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The land the church sits on was originally purchased by Methodists in 1836 before being purchased by the Catholic Church in 1903. Raymond Gonzalez was 18 years when he says he was lured into the World Mission Society Church of God in Ridgewood. The now-25-year-old of Elmwood Park has disaffiliated and is suing the Godwin Avenue church in superior court to have the non-disclosure agreement he signed seven years ago dissolved, NorthJersey.com reports. Teaneck Preacher Admits Stealing $5.3M From Black Nationalist Hate Group
A Teaneck preacher who led a religious hate group admitted in federal court in Newark on Wednesday that he stole what prosecutors said was more than $5.3 million from the organization over nearly a decade to pay for luxury cars, lavish vacations and private school for his children.
