Support is surging for a North Jersey high school teacher and coach who suffered a stroke. More than $18,600 had been raised for Billy Connors and his family on a GoFundMe as of Sunday morning. Connors -- who has been teaching high school business classes for more than 30 years in Hoboken, Sparta, Emerson and Weehawken -- was airlifted to Overlook Hospital in Summit after suffering a stroke in April. Attempted Murder Charges For Elderly Sussex County Man Who Fired Handgun At Police, Drove Away
The elderly man who fired two rounds at officers from a Sussex County parking garage has been charged with attempted murder, Newton Police said. Edwin Greene, 80, called officers from the parking garage under the Newton Town Centre complex stating that he had a gun and was suicidal around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, police said. A temporary lockdown was put into place when Greene fired two rounds from a .22 caliber handgun and drove away, dodging officers’ attempts to block the area, authorities said. Michael Clegg, a 27-year veteran of the Newark Police Department, died of coronavirus, officials said Sunday. Sgt. Michael Clegg, 53, passed away at Overlook Hospital in Summit, according to his family. “Our hearts are broken by the news of Sergeant Clegg’s passing,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Union Police Officers Save Baby Who’d Stopped Breathing
Two police officers in Union rushed into action to perform CPR on a nine-month-old, saving the infant’s life, Capt. Scott Breslow said in a statement. Officers Stephen Viaud and Gaetano D’Allesandro arrived at the Bertha Avenue home within two minutes after the 9-1-1 call in around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Family members were waiting outside with the infant, who was “non-responsive,” Breslow said. Landscaper In Union Killed In Work Accident
A landscaper who was laying mulch at a worksite in Union was killed Friday morning when a co-worker accidentally ran over him with a truck. The accident occurred in the parking lot of Costco, 1055 Hudson St., at 10:16 a.m. when a worker in a pickup struck the victim, police said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at Overlook Hospital. The accident is under investigation by Officer Micael Cocca of the Union Police Department. Witnesses or any others with information can call 908-851-5070.
