Rideshare Driver Charged With Setting Early-Morning Arson Fire At Bergen County Pizzeria
GOTCHA! A rideshare driver from Carlstadt was charged with setting a fire in the basement of a Wood-Ridge pizzeria that investigators said had multiple points of origin. Majd Abdallah, a 27-year-old Jordanian national, was arrested following an investigation into the Feb. 21 blaze, which broke out in a common basement area below Emilia Romagna Pizza & Ristorante on Valley Boulevard shortly before 8 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Two special young boys will be treated to a parade of first responders this Sunday in Waldwick, thanks to Pink Heals of Bergen County. Both Cole McKeon of Waldwick and Austin “AJ” Katchen of Cliffside Park were diagnosed months apart last year with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that attacks certain types of nerve tissue. Before his first birthday, AJ had successful tumor resection surgery, the first of several operations. He’s also undergone chemotherapy that kept him hospitalized several months. Suicide Try: Man Found In Hackensack River Jumped From Route 46 Bridge, Little Ferry Police Say
UPDATE: A 47-year-old Palisades Park man pulled from the Hackensack River in Little Ferry Wednesday morning had jumped from the nearby Route 46 bridge moments earlier in an attempted suicide, authorities said. "He's expected to live," Detective Lt. Ronald Klein Jr. said. "He's just a little out of it." : Ridgefield Park Man, 73, Killed In Overnight House Fire
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- An overnight house fire killed a 73-year-old Ridgefield Park man, authorities confirmed. Luis Ocha-Sanchez was trapped inside after the fast-moving Brinkerhoff Street blaze broke out around 12:30 a.m., Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said. A firefighter also was injured when he slipped on ice, responders said. The cause of the fire was accidental, Calo said.
