Firefighters Battle Vacant Building Blaze On Frequently Struck Paterson Street
A Paterson street that's had more than its share of late-night fires in multi-family houses had another last night. Flames began quickly spreading on the second floor of a vacant 2½-story building on Lafayette Street just off Rosa Parks Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, responders said. It quickly extended to the third floor and forced firefighters into an exterior attic while threatening a twin home next door. Victim Struck By Freight Train In Paterson Suffers Broken Leg
A freight train injury in Paterson sent an unidentified victim to the hospital, responders said. The person victim suffered a broken leg when hit by the CSX train in the area of Lafayette and East 16th streets around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, they said. The victim was conscious and alert when taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center with a fractured femur, responders said. CSX police were investigating. Additional details hadn't yet been made available as of Wednesday morning.

Paterson police detectives caught two 19-year-old men each carrying a handgun in separate weekend incidents, authorities said. A 22-year-old Paterson dealer had been carrying a fully-loaded handgun and 90 combined bags of heroin and cocaine when he tried to run following a traffic stop, authorities said. A fast-moving predawn fire destroyed a dilapidated Paterson multi-family home. The Lafayette Street blaze broke out shortly after 5:30 a.m. and quickly raced through the 2½-story wood-frame house.
