Inmate Serving 43-Year Sentence Dies In NJ State Prison After Encounter With Officer, AG Says
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death of a Northern State Prison inmate who died following an encounter with correctional police officers earlier this month, authorities said.
David Silva, 46, was involved in an encounter with officers on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at the Newark prison, the AG's office said Monday, Dec. 16. Silva was later pronounced dead at a hospital on Thursday, Dec. 12, officials confirmed.
The names of the involved officers are not being released, and no further details have been provided as the investigation remains ongoing.

A brazen armed robbery unfolded Monday night, Nov. 25, when four masked men armed with handguns ambushed a man in a Clifton parking lot, authorities said.
The 37-year-old victim was targeted around 9:22 p.m. in the lot at 1578 Main Ave., where the suspects confronted him, Clifton Police Lt. Robert Anderson reported.

Two Escape, Two Dead In Paterson Fire
Two people were killed in a Paterson fire early Friday, Sept. 20, authorities said.
While a 28-year-old and 69-year-old man were able to escape, the bodies of two other victims were found in the home at 71 North 7th Street just after 2:30 a.m., Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Two men have been arrested and charged in 18 burglaries and one attempted burglary across North Jersey, authorities said.
A months-long investigation found Kali J. Carter, 49, of East Orange, and Demetrius D. Hale, 49, of Bergenfield, were responsible for the incidents, all of which were residential burglaries, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
