Hackensack's mayor is demanding an apology from a councilman accused of making racially insensitive remarks about a local soccer coach. Man, 42, Killed By Train In Garfield ID'd As Hackensack Resident
Police have identified the person struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train on Tuesday morning, Oct. 1. Tameko Joseph, 42, of Hackensack, was struck by Bergen County Line train 1154 near the Garfield Station, near Outwater Lane, just before 7:50 a.m., a spokesperson for the agency said. The train had left Suffern, N.Y. at 7:09 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 8:14 a.m. There were no reported injuries to the 600 customers or crew on board. Hackensack Shooting Under Investigation
Police in Hackensack are investigating a shooting on Friday, Oct. 4. Officers responded to Newman and Sussex streets at 9:30 p.m. on reports of shots fired, Hackensack Police Capt. Michael Antista said. No victims or witnesses were found upon arrival, and further investigation turned up a found shell casing, confirming that a shooting occurred. The Detective Bureau is conducting an investigation and no further information was available.

Bergen County Man, 65, Sexually Assaulted Victim Under 16: Prosecutor
A 65-year-old Bergen County man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child under 16 years old. Sylvester R. Jackson, of Westwood, allegedly sexually assaulted the victim on Sept. 28 in the borough of Westwood, an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Westwood police found, according to Prosecutor Mark Musella. Jackson was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact. He was lodged in the county jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Bergen County Man Tricked 8 Victims Into Investing In Property For 'Redevelopment:' Prosecutor
A Bergen County man is facing charges after authorities say he tricked eight victims into paying thousands of dollars for Newark investment properties, which authorities said had not actually been designated for redevelopment. An investigation was launched into Jason S. McNeill, 48, of Wyckoff, last April, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musell said. McNeill allegedly presented the eight victims with forged documents and solicited approximately $420,000 in total from them. Three Dump Trucks Crash On Route 80, Firefighters Say
A crash involving three dump trucks shut a portion of Route 80 Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 2. Hackensack firefighters were called to the scene in the westbound lanes where they found the three trucks and one passenger vehicle near Exit 64 around 1:50 p.m., they said. There were no injuries reported, however, a large fluid spill from the dump trucks required a DOT truck to respond and apply sand to the leaking fluid. An electrical fire at Hackensack Meridian Health's Hackensack University Medical Center broke out Wednesday morning, Oct. 2. An activated fire alarm brought the city's fire department to the scene around 6:40 a.m., firefighters said. "Further investigation found an electrical buss bar shorted out and activated a nearby sprinkler head," the HFD said on Facebook. "The electrical equipment automatically shut down and the sprinkler extinguished any remaining hot spots." A 26-year-old man has been charged with arson after setting two county-owned vehicles on fire in the parking lot of a private high school in Hackensack, authorities said.
