The driver of the mason dump truck got out in time before the engine and cab became fully engulfed in flames on the northbound highway near Colonial Road shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26. An off-duty Passaic County sheriff’s officer nabbed Tony Amandee Smith of Monroe Township (Middlesex County) on Colonial Road shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9, Capt. Mark McCombs said. The officer kept Smith in custody until borough officers collected him, McCombs said. A Highwoods Drive resident called police just after 2:45 a.m. to report someone trying to break into his vehicle, Capt. John Bakelaar said. Responding Officer Nicholas Klein spotted a white, undetermined-type vehicle and a black Range Rover traveling together in the area, Bakelaar said. Pair Wanted On Warrants Nabbed By Franklin Lakes PD, Released Under Bail Reform Franklin Lakes police continued to pick off out-of-town motorists wanted on outstanding warrants – and not just on Route 208. A stop on Colonial Road on Wednesday turned up warrants on two Paterson men, both of whom were being sought by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, Capt. John Bakelaar said. William Stokes, 52, also was wanted out of Paterson and Wayne, while Kiwan Bradley, 35, also was wanted out of Fairfield, the captain said. Stokes was taken to the Passaic County Jail -- only to be ordered released by a judge slightly over 24 hours later under New Jersey's 2017 bail reform law. …
