A missing 14-year-old East Rutherford boy evaded an hours-long, late-night search before turning up in Lyndhurst, authorities said. The boy's mother told police that her son had run off from The Monarch apartment complex shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, East Rutherford Deputy Chief Phillip Taormina said. Firefighters Battle Meadowlands Brush Fire
UPDATE: The latest in a series of recent area brush fires was the biggest, as winds Friday night blew a blaze through a swath of the Meadowlands. The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. near the East Rutherford Public Works building off Murray Hill Parkway and Madison Circle Drive near Berry's Creek. East Rutherford firefighters thought they had most of the blaze knocked within 20 or so minutes. But a third alarm was called a little under an hour after it began. Responders: 2 Men On ATV Hit By Train In East Rutherford End Up In Creek
Two Hasbrouck Heights men were injured Sunday afternoon when their ATV was struck by an NJ Transit train in East Rutherford, authorities said. One of the men tumbled into Berry's Creek near the Route 3 bridge and the other went in after him, responders said. Both were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, they said. Hudson Mail Thief Who Kicked, Bit Wood-Ridge Officer In Fierce Fight Quickly Released By Judge
A Wood-Ridge police sergeant was injured during a furious struggle with an accused mail thief from Union City who was quickly back on the street following his arrest. Responding to a 911 call, Sgt. Joseph Rutigliano found Jimmy Yepez, 36, while searching the area of the thefts near Bergen Street and Industrial Road, Detective Lt. Joseph Biamonte said.
