Gunman Gets 8 Years, No Parole, For $35,000 Secaucus Bank Robbery
An out-of-state man who admitted robbing a bank in Secaucus of $35,000 in cash at gunpoint was sentenced to nearly eight years in federal prison, authorities said.
Jose Luis Martinez, 33, of Iowa, must serve all of the plea-bargained 94-month sentence because there's no parole in the federal prison system.

Fleeing Driver Nabbed After Crashing Off Route 17: Saddle River PD
A driver from Rockland County who sped off from a Route 17 stop and crashed moments later was captured on foot miles away, Saddle River police said.
John N. Papain, 37, of Suffern, was pulled over on the northbound highway shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, Saddle River Police Chief Jason Cosgriff said.
Papain was speaking with the officers on the side of the road when he suddenly hit the gas of his 2009 Ford Escape and sped off, the chief said.
Rather than pursue him, the officers watched as Papain turned onto Plesant Avenue, then followed him, Cosgriff said.

An Iowa man admitted robbing a bank in Secaucus, federal authorities said.
Jose Luis Martinez, 32, pointed a long-barreled gun at a teller in the Bank of America on Park Plaza Drive around 5 p.m. Jan. 5, 2017, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Philip R. Sellinger said.
Martinez, who was wearing glasses, an Everlast hoodie and two wool caps, told the teller that he’d “shoot her and other customers if she did not comply,” the U.S. attorney said.

A repeat offender broke into his grandmother's home in the middle of the night, then pulled her purse from her hands and fled when she caught him, Lyndhurst police said.
Joseph A. Ban, 29, was rummaging through the 77-year-old victim's belongings when she awoke around 2:30 a.m., Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said.
She confronted Ban, who demanded cash and credit cards, the lieutenant said.

John Nottingham was turned over to the FBI after a caller seeking a reward tipped off the local CrimeStoppers group, Englewood Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said Monday.
