A Boonton mom was charged after admitting she gave unprescribed drugs to her daughter, who was found dead next to a bottle of medication, documents show. Police responding to a report of a deceased child Monday night found Shay Mooney's 11-year-old daughter Wade Richardson unresponsive, ABC7 reports. Mooney gave the girl 10 milliliters of Oxycodone, Seroquel and other medications from her own prescriptions in an attempt to treat pain caused by a medical condition they both share, the mom told police. Heartbreaking: Help Sought Saving Life Of Emaciated Dog Found In Paterson
"An emaciated dog in need of urgent medical care” doesn't quite describe the condition of a starving dog rescued from the streets of Paterson. The frail, 17-pound pooch, who was named Reese, made through the night with a normal pulse at the Oradell Animal Hospital, but "her temperature is low, and she is incredibly weak," officials with the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge said. "She has been able to lift her head and even give kisses as her wounds are delicately cleaned," the Oakland-based organization said. Intravenous fluids had to be delivered extremely slowly because of Reese's delicate c…

Dozens of roosters rescued from a Paterson cockfighting ring are being “re-homed” by an acclaimed Morris County shelter. “We’ve been calling them all ‘Pretty Bird,” said Rebecca Burton, the vice-president of operations at St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, which handles distressed animals. “There are approximately 50 birds not spoken for by adopters or being transferred out to our shelter partners," Burton said. A few "have signs of old wounds and scarring in the eyes," she said. Otherwise, the roosters are in fine fettle. One just went to a shelter partner, the Animal Welfar…

Four kittens were given a second chance -- thanks to whoever left them in a cardboard box outside of an Oakland animal shelter. A Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge staff member was walking a dog when she noticed the sealed box, with a piece of paper labeled "kittens" taped to it on Oct. 18, the organization said. "She brought the box to a safe place, dreading what she would find inside," RBARI said. "When she slowly opened the box, four tiny eyes peered out at her, quite frightened. "She breathed a sigh of relief that these precious tiny kittens appeared to be healthy and bright eye…
