Eleven dogs and one cat were rescued from their owner’s side days after she passed away in her Passaic County home, officials said. The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI) and Second Chance Pet Adoption League joined forces to bring in the dozen animals in the "distressing" animal welfare situation in Haledon, rescuers said in a news release. Chickens Killed, Dog, Pet Birds Rescued In Hawthorne House Fire
Several chickens died and a dog and some pet birds were rescued during a fast-moving Monday morning house fire in Hawthorne. The blaze broke out on the first floor and extended to the second floor and attic of the Lafayette Avenue home at Llewellyn Avenue around 10 a.m., responders said. Responders: Dog Hospitalized In Hackensack Fire
Hackensack firefighters doused a house blaze that responders said sent a dog to an animal hospital Friday afternoon. First responders found heavy flames on the top floor of the 1½-story wood-frame home on Kent Street near northbound Route 17 shortly before 1:30 p.m. They had the fire knocked down quickly and under control within 15-20 minutes. Firefighters rescued a dog during a four-alarm blaze that destroyed a home improvement company in Paterson. The blaze broke out in the rear of the Empire Kitchen & Design on Berkshire Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday, responders said. It went to two alarms and then three in under 20 minutes. Fire consumed a Hawthorne home Wednesday morning. An elderly couple got out OK. So did their dog, who was rescued and returned to them. Firefighters found the 2½-story Washington Avenue residence fully involved around 11 a.m. Two alarms on arrival became three bells a little over a half-hour later. Firefighters Make Quick Work Of Saddle Brook Basement Blaze
Firefighters rescued a dog while quickly dousing a basement blaze that damaged a Saddle Brook home. The fire broke out in the two-story Alberta Drive home around 9 p.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported. Providing mutual aid either at the scene or in coverage were firefighters from Elmwood Park, Fair Lawn, Garfield and Rochelle Park. Two cats were rescued in a damaging house blaze early Thursday afternoon in Mahwah. Police got there seconds after the noontime blaze broke out and ushered two residents out of the 2½-story home on Winding Trail in the township's Fardale section, neighbors said. After spending months on the run on Long Island, the elusive “Barney the Bull” has been captured, the SPCA announced. More than 100 neglected cats were rescued from a hoarding situation at a home in South Bound Brook, rescue officials said. Animal control officers from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center were called in to assist local police after a neighbor complained about a foul odor coming from the home, St Hubert's said.
