Ricardo Waite, 27, had been threatening other household members, the 50-year-old woman told detectives, when she tried taking him to police headquarters for an evaluation Tuesday night.
“As she approached the station, Waite allegedly threatened to assault her in front of police officers and do something to make them shoot him,” Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“The woman ran from the car screaming for help, but Waite caught up to her, covered her mouth and began dragging her back to the vehicle,” Torell said.
She broke free and ran inside, he said.
Officres searched for Waite with no luck, then obtained an arrest warrant charging him with domestic violence terroristic threats and false imprisonment.
Waite returned home yesterday morning but fled before officers arrived, Torell said.
Moments later, Officer Timothy Reilly spotted him walking in the 200 block of West Palisade Avenue and took him into custody without incident.
Waite remained held on $9,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
