Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner collecting five public paychecks

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: Nick Sacco might get the most attention for triple dipping into the public till as mayor, state Senator and vice-superintendent of schools in North Bergen, but he isn’t the only one in Hudson County. Records show Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner collecting five (5) public paychecks.

Richard Turner

As chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Albio Sires, Turner so far this year has collected $59,333 as of June 30.

Based on figures from the previous two years, he’s due another $62,500, for a total 2011 salary of $121,833.

Turner is also receiving an annual pension of $72,000, having retired as the business administrator of West New York under Sires.

Unable to return to the position once the pension payments began, Turner landed a $48,000 contract from the city this year as a consultant.

Throw in the $5,000 a year he gets as mayor of Weehawken and another annual $5,000 as chairman of North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue, and Turner’s take this year will top $251,800.

That’s in addition to $121,000 that Turner was paid last year for working for Sires in a taxpayer-funded job.

The previous years: $118,250 (2009), $120,000 (2008), $115,667 (2007), and $16,667 (2006).

All public record.

All paid for in tax dollars.
