Tenafly police search for juveniles from pot, booze bash, issue warning

PUBLIC SAFETY: A weekend pot and booze bash attended by dozens of under-aged teens has Tenafly police warning residents about the dangers – and legal consequences – of illicit house parties. It also has detectives identifying who was there.

Somewhere between 50 and 75 young people bolted when police arrived late Saturday, responding to noise complaints at an Engle Street house near Hillside Avenue.

Inside the house, officers “dozens of open containers of beer and hard alcohol, as well as marijuana and other evidence of illicit drug use,” Detective Capt. Michael deMoncada said.

Backups were called and police spoke with a 44-year-old resident who admitted being home during the party.

The resident, Ivette Wilson, was given summonses for allowing underage drinking on her property and “maintaining a nuisance” that she must answer Nov. 6 in Municipal Court.

But that wasn’t all.

“Detectives are also investigating who may have attended the party by interviewing several witnesses and by identifying several pieces of unique personal property left at the scene after the party-goers hastily fled the area,” deMoncada said. “Juvenile charges against those who attended the party are likely to be filed once they are identified.

“Obviously, this type of conduct will not be tolerated,” the captain warned.

Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call Tenafly Police: (201) 568-5100.
