Investigators found that Shameek Ellis, 31, was "altering checks received by the business, manipulating the business’ computerized accounting system and using a computerized payroll system to falsely inflate his income," Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

They charged him with theft by deception and computer-related theft charges.

The investigation began in September 2015, when members of Molinelli's White Collar Crimes Unit received a complaint of suspected theft from the Flow Pilates Studio, the prosecutor said.

Detectives discovered thefts that began in January 2013, he said.

Ellis, of Poor Street, was freed on a summons to appear in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack on Dec. 3.

"A forensic examination of the business’ receipts is ongoing and the full amount of the loss has yet to be determined," Mollinelli said.
