The victim called police just before 10 p.m., saying that Avigdor Eldan broke into the Roberts Court home through a back door and assaulted him, Capt. Michael deMoncada said this morning.

He then took off on foot, the homeowner said.

The victim, 44, was treated at a local hospital with injuries that deMoncada said weren’t life-threatening.

Meanwhile, police obtained an arrest warrant for Eldan, with $75,000 bail, charging him with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and illegal weapons possession.

“Based upon the victim’s statement,” deMoncada said, “we believe Mr. Eldan…may be in the United States for a short period of time on business.

“Our detectives are working diligently with other law enforcement agencies to locate Mr. Eldan in connection with the above incident,” he said.

Anyone with information that could help toward that end is asked to call Tenafly police: (201) 568-5100.
