The highway was closed for several hours investigators continued their work — including trying to find a missing limb — in what was described as a horrific scene.
The victim, Calvin Troy Dixon, lived in the Rock Creek Terrace apartments.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and Bergen County Police Department were investigating.
Authorities immediately said they believe the vehicle sustained front-end damage.
“[S]ometime between 3:46 a.m. and 3:56 a.m., Calvin Troy Dixon was struck by a motor vehicle while walking in the roadway near the top of the entrance ramp to State Highway Route 4 East from Grand Avenue,” Molinelli said in a release.
“That vehicle, which fled the scene after the collision, was heading eastbound on State Highway Route 4 East after it struck the victim,” the prosecutor said.
“As a result of information and evidence obtained from the scene during the investigation, it is believed that the vehicle involved may be a large truck, bus or tractor-trailer with dual wheels,” he added.
He asked that anyone with information about the crash crash call his Fatal Accident Investigation Unit at (201) 226-5500 or the BCPD at (201) 336-7700.
