One ex-con caught, another sought, in Englewood domestic assaults

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Englewood police arrested one convicted felon and were looking for another in a pair of domestic violence incidents in which women and a teenaged girl narrowly escaped serious injury.

Tommy Dean

Tommy Dean, 56, was arrested yesterday morning after returning home following an incident the night before in which police said he threw a chair at his wife and then fled with $8,000 worth of her jewelry.

Although Dean denied stealing the jewelry, Detective Capt. Tim Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT, “our detectives are following some leads” that point to where it might be.

Dean was being held on $16,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with aggravated assault, threatening to kill and theft.

Charges also awaited 35-year-old ex-con Tremaine Alston (photo, top) after an incident around 10:45 last night, also in the city’s Third Ward, in which he’s charged with throwing a flat-screen television during an argument with his girlfriend.

The TV hit the woman’s 15-year-old daughter in the leg, causing injuries that required medical treatment, Torell said.

“There were a number of children in the home at the time of this incident,” the captain told CLIFFVIEW PILOT, “but thankfully there were no other injuries.

The state Division of Child Protection & Permanency was contacted, which is standards procedure “when the safety and well-being of children are at risk or an injury has occurred,” he said.

Alston is charged with criminal mischief and child abuse.

“These types of cases rightfully require a significant amount of time and resources by police officers,” Torell noted.
