No Summonses After PSE&G Dump Truck Hits Tenafly Pedestrian, 74

TENAFLY, N.J. -- No summonses were issued to the driver of a PSE&G dump truck that struck and seriously injured a 74-year-old borough woman as she crossed a dark Tenafly street Monday night -- although police said an investigation was continuing.

The woman was struck near the southwest corner of Knickerbocker Road and Day Avenue after 9 p.m.

Officers and a doctor who was driving by found the woman breathing but with a faint pulse and a head injury after she was struck by the southbound truck on Knickerbocker Avenue near the southwest corner of Day Avenue just before 8:45 p.m.

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with what Police Chief Robert Chamberlain said were severe injuries. Authorities said they didn't have an update on her condition Tuesday.

The 58-year-old driver from Fair Lawn wasn't injured.

The Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded, along with paramedics from Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit also responded, and the county sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
