An alert was issued for David Campos after one of the victim's three children called police around 5:45 a.m., Troy Police Capt. Daniel DeWolf said.
Four hours or so later, New York State Police began chasing a black Chrysler 200 with Campos behind the wheel.
Palisades Interstate Parkway police officers joined in as the chase continued into New Jersey at 9:40 a.m. They included PIP Police Chief Michael Coppola, Detective Lt. Roman Galloza, Lt. Jesse Cohen and Officers Donald Liu, Travis Philhower and Timothy Conboy.
The speeding Chrysler hit 90 miles an hour at one point and at Interchange 1 in Englewood Cliffs crossed into northbound traffic and barreled through the Sunoco service station lot before Campos turned onto Fletcher Avenue, Coppola said.
He then got onto southbound Route 1 & 9, which he took through Fort Lee and Ridgefied to the southbound Turnpike exit off westbound Route 46, the chief said.
Once south of Linwood Ave, the vehicle crossed back onto the correct side of the road and then entered US Route 1&9 southbound, he said.
Campos got caught in traffic as he approached the 18E Secaucus tolls and PIP police took him into custody, Coppola said.
He was brought to the PIP PD headquarters in Alpine.
Campos will be held in the Bergen County Jail pending extradition, authorities said.
