The robber apparently was waiting and when one of the workers went to the front door to open the South Dean Street bank just before 8 a.m., Suffern told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Although she “struggled to close and attempted to lock the door” as the robber pulled on it, she released her grip after he pulled out a gun “for fear of being shot,” the chief said.
The robber then forced her and another employee to open the vault, tied both of them up, stuffed the cash in a large gym bag and fled, Suffern said.
The chief described him as brown-skinned, about 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, with a thin build and wearing a black, waist-length leather-like jacket, black pants, black puffy scarf, black wool cap, black gloves and black suede boots.
Neither employee was injured, he said.
The FBI and Englewood police are working the case, along with a Bergen County Police Department tracking dog and the county Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which was collecting evidence, he said.
