The Acura Integra hit the center divider just west of Grand Avenue just after 3 a.m., Anthony Cureton of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office said.

The driver Bevan Senior Jr., was ejected and then hit by another vehicle, whose operator "may or may not have known they struck the victim," he said.

The other was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with minor injuries, Cureton said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded, along with local and sheriff's police and the sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification.

The westbound highway was reopened around 11 a.m., Cureton said.

Anyone who witnessed or has information about the crash is asked to call Detective Weston of the sheriff’s Bureau of Police Services at (201) 336-7893
