“We’re trying to determine why he had so much firepower,” Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Marion Pearson, 43, had a Glock 9mm semi-automatic and a Taurus .38-caliber revolver — “both fully loaded with hollow-nosed bullets and ready to go,” Torell said. “He also had a number of extra bullets on him.”
Several officers converged on the 6-foot, 215-pound Pearson just before midnight, after the citizen flagged down Officer Renee Laraia and reported seeing him come from a 7-Eleven at Tenafly Road and West Palisade Avenue carrying a gun.
Involved in the arrest were Officer Robert Occhiuzzi, Leonidas Restrepo, Jose Sanehez and LaRaia.
“They all did a great job in getting the guns off the street without any one getting hurt,” Torell said.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Ballistic Unit was trying to determine whether they were involved in any other crimes. Information also was forwarded to the ATF in an effort to trace their origin, the captain said.
Pearson, meanwhile, was being held on $125,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with two counts of illegal weapons possession and one of possessing hollow-nosed bullets.
