The first involved a pack of thugs who set upon a gas station attendant at a Route 4 Mobil station after he tried to stop them from stealing candy, cigarettes and lighters around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 25.
Joining the group was another man who police said was wearing white “Bull Dogs” jacket (photos, above and below).
The group, believed to be from the Bronx and having just attended an Englewood party, then took off with some of the items — having committed robbery and aggravated assault, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
NYPD detectives were assisting Englewood investigators in the case, he said, adding that the manager got the license plate numbers of the vehicles eeryone arrived in.
“We strongly urge those responsible to turn themselves in to our detectives before they face the prospect of being arrested in New York and having to go through the extradition process,” the captain said.
The second incident occured around 3 a.m. Jan. 30 at a 7-Eleven on Tenafly Road.
A store employee watched as a similar group of men in their late teens and early 20s shoplifted several items, not confronting the group out of fear, Torell said.
About an hour later, one of the group returned (inset, above).
The clerk approached him and an argument ensued, the captain said.
Others then hopped out of their cars and joined in beating the employee, he said.
The clerk had several head injuries but refused medical attention, Torell said.
Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call Englewood detectives: (201) 568-4875. All calls will remain confidential, Torell said.
