The first occurred after officers were dispatched to the the corner of Lafayette Place and Third Street, in the City’s 4th Ward, around 1 a.m. Saturday, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Witnesses directed them to 18-year-old city resident Douglas Wade-Perry, who they said was acting violently in the street.

Wade-Perry “turned his aggression” toward police, “punching Officer Charles Silva in the face and spitting and fighting with back-up officers,” Torell said.

Police quickly got him under control and into custody.

Wade-Perry was taken to Englewood Medical Center for observation “because of possible drug and/or alcohol involvement,” Torell said. He later posted bail and was released from police headquarters pending a court hearing on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct.

The second incident occured around 2 p.m. at the hospital, where, Torell said, 22-year-old Fairview resident Josue Hernandez was arrested after striking Officer Reynaldo Rose.

“Hernandez had been taken to the hospital earlier by another Bergen County police agency for an unrelated issue,” the captain explained.

As he was being released, Hernandez “created a disturbance, causing the ER staff to call us,” he said.

Hernandez was taken to the Bergen County Jail and was released yesterday after posting $2,500 bail, records show.

He is is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Neither officer involved in the assaults was injured seriously, Torell said.
