Officers responding to a 1st Ward apartment in the early-morning hours of Christmas Eve said they heard yelling from an apartment — and then silence when they knocked.

They continued knocking and were about to force their way in when Santana DeJesus Jr. opened the door, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

His mother was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while DeJesus Jr. was taken to the Bergen County Jail, where he was being held on $31,500 bail on charges of domestic violence assault, obstruction and elder abuse.

Nearly 48 hours later, a 32-year-old Englewood resident came to police headquarters saying that her 8-year-old was struck by a falling object during a fight between her and her mother in a 3rd Ward residence.

The child had minor injuries, Torell said.

Two hours later, Detective Sgt. Chris Kedersha, Detective Chris Quirk and Officer Joe Doyle found and arrested arrested 52-year-old Englewood resident Mary Piggot on domestic violence assault and child endangerment charges at a friend’s apartment. She was being held on $26,200 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
