Ronald Burrows (far left), 37, was in the rear bedroom of a Mount Vernon apartment when Englewood detectives, along with members of the United States Marshall’s Office NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force, moved in last Wednesday.

Burrows waived extradition and was picked up by Englewood detectives at the Westchester County Jail this morning.

He and former Englewood resident
David Harrison, 38, are charged with taking $6,000 in cash and a 2007 Chevy Tahoe from a Lodi resident who was returning from a card game in Englewood’s 4th Ward on April 13.

They suspect a handgun and some type of sharp tool were used, Detective Lt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Patrol officers spotted the vehicle soon after and pulled it over on Huguenot Avenue, on the east side of the city.

Harrison, the driver, bailed out. He surrendered to detectives on May 9 and is being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

Burrows took off in another vehicle, Torell said.

The lieutenant emphasized that high-stake private card games in residential areas, whether legal or not in nature, “often result in robberies and shootings and create a dangerous recipe for violence.”

He recalled an incident last August, when two gunmen entered the first floor of a multi-family residence on William Street, where a makeshift gambling parlor had been set up. Children were in upstairs apartment when one of the robbers shot a gambler in the leg.

“Luckily no one else was injured in the incident,” Torell said, “but the possibility of a stray bullet travelling through walls could have resulted in an even more tragic situation.”

Police urge citizens to report such activities.
