Englewood armed robber punches woman, 60, in face

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Englewood police believe a street thug who punched a 60-year-old woman in the face, pointed a gun at her and took cash from her purse last night is the same one who robbed a local convenience store last week.

The Hispanic woman was walking home from work on Slocum Avenue off Tenafly Road when the tall, black robber in his 20s came up from behind and attacked her around 10:30 p.m. yesterday, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

She was later taken to Englewood Medical Center, he said.

“We’re concerned,” Torell said. “This is an extreme level of violence.

“We suspect he may be the same individual who robbed the New Quick Market,” the captain said. “He’s probably local.

We need to get this guy off the streets.”

In last Tuesday’s robbery, the 26-year-old clerk at the West Hamilton Avenue store told police he was cooperating when the gunman pistol-whipped him.

A pedestrian who found him dazed and bleeding badly from the face and head flagged down a passing patrol officer, and the clerk was taken to Englewood Medical Center. He needed “a significant amount” of stitches to close his wounds, Torell said.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call Englewood detectives: (201) 568-4875. All calls will remain confidential, Torell said.
