Disgarded Kid's Toy In Box Brings Bergen Bomb Squad To Tenafly Supermarket

TENAFLY, N.J. -- A child’s old plastic toy, “probably left as garbage,” brought the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad after it was found in a small cardboard box in a plastic bag left Thursday morning outside the Tenafly Stop & Shop, borough police said.

Borough police notified the bomb squad after the call came in from the West Railroad Avenue supermarket shopping center at 10:43 a.m., Capt. Michael deMoncada said.

“ The area was secured and a bomb technician was able to approach and X-ray the package,” left near a garbage can, deMoncada said. “The package was deemed safe a short time later.”

He thanked the Sheriff’s Office “for their assistance in resolving this incident so quickly.”

It was the Bomb Squad's second suspicious package call of the day. Earlier they collected a pair of shoes found beneath a bench at the Ridgewood train station with a wire under them.
