Officers found the wounded 46-year-old victim just after 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Lafayette Place and West Englewood Avenue — commonly known as Wides Corner — in the city’s Fourth Ward.

Fellow city resident John Bullock, who was standing nearby, dropped a bloody knife and was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, among others, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said.

Torell said Bullock, an ex-con, stabbed the man after having some type of argument with the girlfriend of the victim’s 19-year-old son, “which contributed to the incident getting so violent.”

Bullock also tried to slash the son’s face and neck when he came to his father’s aid but missed, Torell said.

The victim was hospitalized with injuries that Torell said aren’t considered life-threatening.

“We believe his injuries were not more serious because of several layers of heavy clothing,” the captain said.

Bullock, 44, was briefly hospitalized, as well, for a large cut he sustained on his hand during the attack, he said.

He was bound for the Bergen County Jail on $250,000 bail. Besides attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault, Bullock is charged with a trio of weapons offenses — among them, being a convicted felon in possession of one.

Bullock has convictions for drug distribution & robbery in North Carolina, Torell said.
