The family of 25-year-old Curtis Aukshunas “is tremendously grateful to all here who have helped, shared, searched and supported throughout this terrible time,” a Facebook page post now says.
It remains unclear, pending the results of an autopsy, what happened to Aukshunus, a native of Orange, California, who was reported missing from his job as an analyst for BNP Paribas Bank on May 8. It was believed he hailed a cab outside his office on West 51 Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan around lunchtime.
Meetups were organized to search the city and the river the past few weeks. A special Facebook page was also dedicated to the cause: helpfindcurtis.com
Tall and thin at 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds, Aukshunas was described as “a husband, kitten foster, bread baker, distance runner, dashing dressing & vegetable gardener.”
The Columbia University graduate ran cross-country for the school and was married on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 nearly two years ago.
The NYPD said yesterday that his body was found on Sunday and that autopsy results were pending.
“Currently, there are no further details to share about this tragic event,” the family Facebook post says. “The family asks that you please respect their privacy as they mourn his passing. With deep appreciation, we thank you once again.”
