This year’s pull helped the NJ Law Enforcement Torch Run raise nearly $45,000 by mid-afternoon, organizers say.

The members of PBA Local 134 — also known as “Bergen’s Boldest” — have participated in the 16-year event since 1999.

Today, they joined nearly 30 other teams in  competitions that included a dozen officers pulling the 46½-ton (93,000-lb) 737 in one and only six in another.

Time and distance were key factors, as was being able to move the plan using the least manpower.

Special Olympics New Jersey is a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the state. More than 23,000 athletes enjoy camaraderie and gain a sense of pride and accomplishment through participating in these events.
