The former Yankees outfielder was born on Oct. 29, 1959 and turns 57 today.
He lived in Tenafly while playing with the Yankees from 1989-1992.
After playing the first nine seasons of his 12-year-career with the Blue Jays, Toronto traded Barfield in 1989 to the Yankees.
The Joliet, Ill., native hit 241 career home runs, including a league-high 40 dingers in 1986. He twice won a Gold Glove Award and was an All-Star with the Blue Jays. He closed out his baseball career in 1993 with the Yomiuri Giants.
He joined the Houston Astros for spring training in 1994 and was projected to be the opening-day right-fielder, but injuries prevented him from making the ballclub.
