She is best known for her portrayal of Laura Spencer on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital. She also starred in numerous other daytime soaps.
She won a Daytime Emmy in 2007 for her work on General Hospital.
Francis married actor/director Jonathan Frakes. They have two children and live in Maine.
