On Sept. 29, Tenafly author and media personality Siggy Flicker debuts her first book “Write Your Own Fairy Tale: The New Rules for Dating, Relationships, and Finding Love On Your Own Terms," a guide to dating by her own rules.
"People have been coming to me for relationship advice since I was 14 years old," said Flicker, who still uses her former married name. "I've been telling people what's in this book for years."
The matchmaker, who hails from Israel and has appearanced on VH1 and national talk shows, not only went through an amicable divorce from her ex-husband Mark Flicker, but helped him and others navigate a dating process with her strict set of rules.
She believes men should do the chasing, and women should spend less time competing with other single women.
When it is time to get to know someone, she says no to meeting family and friends or having sex too early in the relationship. Heeding her own advice helped her keep her relationships with her children, ex-husband and their new families intact.
She met and married Michael Campanella, a car salesman with whom she has found true love. Her ex-husband was Campanella's best man at the wedding.
"You have to put in the work, and go out and meet people," said Flicker. "People get lazy hiding behind a computer saying there are no good guys out there and they could be looking at the profile of their soulmate."
"My book is for people ages 16 to 60. For anybody who doesn't have great advice in their life," she said. "I give you the ingredients but it is up to you to get out the mixing bowl and work with it."
