Beyond Pumpkin: Bergen County Bakeries Dish Up Variety Of Thanksgiving Pies

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. -- A good pie can remedy any Thanksgiving meal, including any and all dysfunctional family dynamics.

Sweeten the day with to-go options that are as good as Grandma used to make -- and quite probably better. Just order early (as is now); Nov. 26 will be here before you know it.

Allendale Eats (101 West Allendale Ave, Allendale, 201- 825-0110): Fall flavors are on full display where apple caramel crumb, apple walnut leaf, cherry chocolate crumb, pumpkin pecan and coconut custard are just some of the Thanksgiving menu offerings. Order by Friday, Nov. 20. 

Butterflake Bakeshop (448 Cedar Ln, Teaneck, 201- 836-3516): Traditional apple and pumpkin pie are featured at this kosher bakery where you'll also find sugar-free pie options. 

Demarest (244 Werimus Rd., Hillsdale, 201-666-0472) ): Talk about farm fresh: there are nine different pies to order from here, everything from apple to pumpkin to harvest (a variety of berries). Order before Saturday, Nov. 21. 

Eerie Coffee Bakery (10 Franklin Pl., Rutherford, 201- 460-0073): Renee Faris, formerly of Carlo’s Bakery and seen on TLC’s Cake Boss, puts her heart and soul into every batch she makes. Among the choices: buttermilk sweet potato pie, apple cinnamon, pumpkin pecan, Bourbon pecan, and regular pumpkin. Orders are being taken now.

L’Arte della Pasticceria (107-109 E. Main St., Ramsey, 201-934-3211): A wild mushroom tart, pumpkin mascarpone crostata, apple buttermilk crostata, cranberry/Chianti loaf cake and other European-style desserts are on the Thanksgiving menu at this Italian cafe where Chef Vicki Wells is all about baking from scratch using local fruits and seasonal ingredients. Order by Sunday, Nov. 22.
