ALPINE, NJ — A Bergen County first responder who operates a car service is doing his part to boost breast cancer awareness this month with a pink stretch limo.
“Some people want it for transportation or just to park it in front of their awareness event," said Josh Schnee, who owns and operates Advanced Car Service.
“Lots of people, especially women, will pull over, put their hands up and take a picture,” said employee Lauren Melillo, who handles reservations and contracts and suggested painting the stretch hot pink.
“At first I thought that it would be ridiculous," said Schnee, 36, a member of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department and Closter Volunteer Rescue and Ambulance Corps. "Then I responded to a fire at a woman’s house and she had a picture of her and her kids and a pink car."
The following Monday, I told Lauren: 'Send it out.' "We went back and forth Googling the color," Schnee said. "It’s almost like a Pepto-Bismol neon pink.”
Advanced Car Service -- which caters to business travelers, students and nuns, among others -- also provides transportation for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation and donates rides for its annual gala.
Throughout October, Schnee is offering a 10-percent discount on reservations for the the pink limo to anyone associated with a breast cancer cause.
“There’s always someone affected by it. Everybody knows someone who has it," Melillo said. "We celebrate the ones who are in recovery, too.”CALL: (201) 569-7000
