Longevity, formerly Astoria Surgical, is now at 25-e South Van Brunt St., and now specializes in women's health needs, such as supplies for women undergoing cancer treatment as well as new mothers. The store also contiues its focus on medical supplies, such as  lift chairs, knee-walkers, compression garments, among other things.

Also new is a women's health boutique inside the store that offers a variety of products for women dealing with breast cancer as well as pregnant and nursing mothers, particularly specially fitted bras and undergarments.

"With so many young mothers breast-feeding their infants, this boutique has all the supplies a woman needs to be both stylish and supported," said owner Arline Schwechter.

The women's boutique also offers specialty swimwear, hats, wigs and tank tops and other items for women undergoing cancer or other treatments, officials said.

"Today's cancer patient can be well-dressed and active. All of our merchandise is selected to be tasteful, smart-looking, and practical," said Schwechter, an occupational therapist and certified mastectomy and orthotic fitter.

Schwechter has been in the medical supply business for more than 30 years, working with patients young and old for temporary and acute medical supply needs. Many items, such as wheelchairs, can be rented and as well as purchased.
