19: These South Jersey Counties Have Highest Coronavirus Rates
Three counties in South Jersey rank among the top 12 counties statewide in confirmed coronavirus cases, according to New Jersey Health Department statistics. As of Tuesday, Jan. 2, Camden County ranked sixth statewide. Burlington County ranked 10th and Mercer County ranked 12th. There were 177,428 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide on Tuesday, according to the state's COVID Dashboard. Suspect 'Zoom-Bombed' High School Student's Virtual Memorial Service: Police
A suspect has been identified and charged in a Zoom attack on a virtual memorial service for a South Brunswick High School student, authorities said. The memorial service was being held for 17-year-old Emily Murillo who tragically died in January 2021, according to South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka. Due to the coronavirus, the memorial service was broadcasted virtually. A South Jersey yacht company owner and former punk rocker defeated the gym owner who defied New Jersey coronavirus mandates in Tuesday's congressional primary, according to unofficial returns. Businessman Bob Healey was leading Ian Smith for the Republican Pary ballot line. The winner faces two-term Democratic incumbent Congressman Andy Kim, who also won his primary race. Ocean County Sheriff's Officer Died Of COViD-19 Contracted On Job: Union
It is with great sadness that we announce our first line of duty death, members of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department said. Sergeant Matthew Horton, 40, passed on Tuesday, Feb. 22, after a long battle with coronavirus he contracted while on duty, the Ocean County Sheriff's PBA Local #379 announced on Facebook. Substitute Teacher Pay Rate Doubles Amid COVID Driven Staffing Shortages In This NJ District
Substitute teaching pay has more than doubled in a South Jersey school district this year due to staff shortages, NJ Advance Media repotted, citing school sources. When the Bridgeton school year began in September, subs were making just $90, the outlet said. Then, the daily pay rate for subs increased to $135 a day. 19 Cases Surge In NJ Schools As Omicron Presents New Threat
New Jersey schools could quickly have to change plans this winter as COVID-19 cases surge among students and staff to the highest levels seen since September, according to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard. For the week ending Nov. 28, schools reported 3,024 new positive cases among students and 858 new positive cases reported among teachers and school staff.
