Downed Power Line Ignites Multi-Vehicle Fire At Hackensack Apartment Complex
A sedan was incinerated and an SUV totaled after a downed power line ignited a fire at a Hackensack garden apartment complex. Firefighters had to wait for a PSE&G crew to secure power before dousing the burning vehicles at the Summit Gardens complex off Essex Street near northbound Route 17 shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday. They then prevented the fire from spreading. No injuries were reported and no residential property was damaged in the Arcadia Road incident.

An Upper Saddle River police officer responding to a crash dragged an unconscious Rockland County driver to safety moments before the man's minivan went up in flames. The minivan had slammed into a utility pole, splitting it at the base, on East Saddle River Road south of Lake Street just after midnight Thursday, Capt. Edward Kane said. A driver refused medical attention after his Jeep split a utility pole in half before dawn Friday on Route 46 in Lodi, authorities said. The 46-year-old New York motorist apparently fell asleep at the wheel before his Cherokee slammed into the pole outside Joe's Factory Outlet on the westbound highway shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, Police Sgt. Fire Investigators Examine Fort Lee House Blaze
Firefighters contained a Fort Lee house blaze to a front bedroom after a passing lieutenant saw smoke. Fire Lt. Phil Craddock was driving on the Route 1&9 overpass around 4:45 p.m. Monday when he spotted the smoke coming from the two-story home at 2068 Jones Road just below. Firefighters knocked the blaze down in under a half hour. No injuries were reported. The rest of the house beyond the fire room sustained smoke, water and ventilation damage. Sparking wires downed by the overnight storm Monday closed Sylvan Avenue in Englewood Cliffs in both directions and melted some of the roadway, authorities said. Route 9W remained closed past noon between Sage Road and Demarest Avenue while repairs were made, Detective Lt. Ronald F. Waldt said. A speeding SUV snapped a utility pole, downing power lines, before dawn Wednesday in Tenafly. The 24-year-old Hasbrouck Heights driver was extricated from the 2017 GMC Acadia after it became entangled in downed lines on Riveredge Road -- near borough police headquarters -- at 2:20 a.m., Police Capt. Harrington Park firefighters quickly doused a house blaze Sunday afternoon.
