Veteran Responder Charged With Torching Service Vans At Bergen Optimum Store
A veteran firefighter from Passaic County torched two Optimum service vans behind the company’s Oakland store, said authorities who arrested him on Thursday. Randy S. McMaster Jr., 42, of Bloomingdale, intentionally set the fires that were reported behind the Potash Road store at 3:15 p.m. Oct. 19, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. The blazes were quickly suppressed, leaving both service vehicles with fire and smoke damage, before emergency responders arrived, the prosecutor said following McMasters's arrest on Nov. 16. A Waldwick woman was loaded when she plowed her car into the back of a parked utility truck in Montvale over the Labor Day weekend, authorities said. An SUV clipped a utility pole and landed on its side in Washington Township, sending the driver to the hospital. The Toyota Highlander took down a sign, damaged an Optimum box and lost a wheel in the crash on East Glen Avenue just west of the Garden State Parkway shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 6. Optimum Employee, 24, Hit By Car In Hackensack
An Optimum service tech was bleeding from the forehead and complaining of pain after she was struck by a car in Hackensack on Friday, authorities said. The 24-year-old victim was conscious after being struck by a 2018 Honda Civic driven by a 36-year-old Hackensack man in front of 10 Orchard Street around 8:30 a.m., city police Capt. Police: Ridgewood Woman Strands Utility Worker Mid-Air In Bucket
A Ridgewood woman upset with a cable company worker hopped into the cab of an Optimum truck and cut the power to a utility bucket, leaving him hanging in mid-air, police said. Elena Gerlihman, 59, then “removed utility property from the truck and walked away,” Capt. William Amoruso said. Responding officers found the worker stranded in the bucket near Gerlihman’s home at East Ridgewood and South Pleasant avenues, Amoruso said. They arrested Gerlihman on charges of harassment, false imprisonment, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing, then released her pending a court date.
