GoFundMe Launched For Maywood Man Charged With Killing Woman Outside Hackensack Party
UPDATE: A GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise money toward "fair representation" for a 21-year-old Maywood man charged with killing a 19-year-old Bloomingdale woman who'd been with him at a party in a Hackensack high-rise apartment. Fund raising for Michael T. Gaffney is necessary "in a world where the media is able to spin anything to match their agenda," wrote his 22-year-old sister, Samantha Gaffney, who organized the campaign. Gaffney recklessly caused the death of Francis Victoria Garcia, who was with him in the back seat of a car parked on the top level of a garage at 140 Prospect Avenu…

An attorney for one of two men charged following a raid on what authorities said was a major methamphetamine production facility said his client is not guilty of the charges brought against him. Last week Essex County Sheriff's officers spearheaded a search at a home on Lorelei Road in West Orange. Authorities say they recovered methamphetamine with a street value of about $1 million, drug-production materials and…

Crespo and his partner, who was driving, joined in the pursuit in Newark after two men believed to be armed fled a traffic stop. A high-speed chase ensued that was captured on dash cam and on officers' body cameras. The video, later released in full by the Essex County Prosecutor's Offic…

Group Paying Legal Fees Of Newark Police Officer Charged In Deadly Shooting
A Virginia-based law enforcement organization said Monday it will pay the legal expenses for Jovanny Crespo, a Newark police officer facing life in prison for shooting and killing a fleeing criminal suspect early this year. The Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund of Arlington, Virginia, describes its "core mission" as "raising funds to defend the actions of wrongly accused" police officers "acting within the scope of their responsibilities and training." Crespo was indicted last month on charges of manslaughter, assault and other offenses for his actions during a high-speed pursu…
