Update: Stolen Car Crash Into Utility Pole Closes Route 17, Fleeing Juveniles Captured The driver and passenger in a stolen Range Rover that hit a utility pole, rolled over and ignited a cluster of flames during a pre-dawn police chase Friday on Route 17 are both 15-year-old juveniles from Newark, authorities said. The Range Rover and a silver Porsche Panamera were both stolen from the garage of a Carlton Road residence in Wyckoff after the thieves broke into the home and found the keys shortly before 4:30 a.m. Dec. 8, Wyckoff Police Lt. Roofer Injured In Saddle River Fall A roofer sustained a head injury in a fall at a Saddle River home Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The worker initially was unconscious after falling from the roof of the home on East Saddle River Road around 1:30 p.m., Police Chief Jason Cosgriff said. "He was conscious when we arrived and exhibiting signs of a head injury," the chief said. The roofer was taken to the trauma unit at Hackensack University Medical Center by an EMS unit from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

The driver wasn't injured in the West Saddle River Road crash near Dater Lane, which downed wires and sent a transformer crashing to the ground, shortly after 2:30 p.m., Police Chief Jason Cosgriff said. A road crew from Orange & Rockland Utilities was expected somewhere between 5:30-6 p.m., he said. "The roadway will be closed for several hours while the utility company makes the necessary repairs," the chief said.
