Morris County Emergency Crews Save Life Of Toddler Who Suddenly Stopped Breathing
Emergency crews in Morris County are being recognized for helping save the life of a local toddler who suddenly stopped breathing. The New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department and First Aid Squad administered CPR to the child, who was urgently brought to the station earlier this week, the department said Wednesday. A frightened caller brought a SWAT team to a Wayne home Wednesday in search of a man who’d assaulted a family member and reportedly threatened to shoot responding police, authorities said. There was no standoff or confrontation after officer spoke outside the Benwell Avenue home with the injured family member, who claimed that 18-year-old Nicholas Perota had taken a female acquaintance hostage in a bedroom shortly before 1:30 p.m., they said. Wayne Police Officer Braves Flames, Dog Dies In House Fire
Flames and smoke kept a Wayne police officer from rescuing a dog who died in a house fire, authorities said. Township police, firefighters and First Aid Squad members responded to what began as a garage fire on Sycamore Terrace around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Detective Capt. Christian Wittig said. A resident told Corporal Robert Feeney that her dog was inside, Wittig said. Feeney went in trying to rescue the dog but had to retreat after several attempts due to the fire and smoke, the captain said. Three Passengers Hospitalized, Driver Cited, After Vehicle Rolls In Oakland
Three passengers were hospitalized with minor injuries after their vehicle rolled into a ditch in Oakland on Thursday, authorities said. Responding police, firefighters and First Aid Squad members found the vehicle on its passenger side off Skyline Drive around 12:45 p.m., Detective Lt. Christian Eldridge said. The three passengers were removed from the 2017 Nissan and taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, the lieutenant said. The Ringwood driver, who wasn’t injured, received a careless driving summons, Eldridge said.
