UPDATE: A worker was seriously injured when an awning that he and others were dismantling in front of an apartment building in Hackensack collapsed on him Friday, authorities confirmed. The 50-something victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with what appeared to be a broken arm, among other injuries, after the structure at the Parkview Apartments on Polifly Road gave way shortly before noon Oct. 27, responders said. Northbound Route 287 remained closed for hours following an accident involving a paving company dump truck and several pieces of heavy equipment. The truck, which had been pulling a trailer, ended up perched precariously atop an embankment near mile marker 64, just south of Darlington Avenue in Mahwah, after taking out a stretch of guardrail and losing its load around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30. Rockland Man, 71, Falls Nearly 20 Feet From Ladder Helping Mahwah Friend After Storm
A 71-year-old Rockland man trying to help a Mahwah homeowner remove a tree branch from his roof following Tuesday’s storm lost his balance and fell nearly 20 feet off a ladder, authorities said. The victim, from Spring Valley, was conscious and alert but had a large cut on his forehead when officers arrived at the Wyckoff Avenue home shortly after 8 p.m., Mahwah Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said. SUVs, Sedan Involved In Chain-Reaction Fair Lawn Crash After Driver Has Diabetic Emergency
Two SUVs and a sedan were involved in a chain-reaction crash Friday afternoon in Fair Lawn after one of the drivers apparently had a diabetic episode, police said. Both ALS and BLS units responded to the crash just after 4 p.m. in front of the iHop on westbound Broadway. The extent of injuries wasn't immediately known. The Fair Lawn Rescue Squad also responded to clean up a fuel spill. Traffic on Broadway was jammed after the crash, which occurred barely a half-hour after a hit-run on southbound Route 208.
