“He was a kind, smart, motivated person and a great friend,” the McAfee Fire Department said on Facebook. “We want to send our condolences to his family and wife, and hope they may find peace knowing he is resting easy now. We will miss you brother; we’ve got it from here.”
According to his Facebook, Basso was a Grade III OSP tech at Optimum and previously served as a sergeant in the 353 Civil Affairs Command.
“The depth of pain we all feel from your passing is a testament to the wonderful, kind, caring, smart, strong individual you were,” his sister-in-law Kristen Burdzy wrote.
“You were truly such a genuine amazing person, and this world is a darker place without you. I was always impressed by your kindness and your strength.”
Funeral arrangements have not been publicly announced.
