Demarest English Students Receive Scholastic Writing Awards

DEMAREST, N.J. --  Several students from Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest were honored with poetry and writing awards.Anne Paolucci, English Supervisor and James Santana, Principal made the announcement the following students were honored:

  • Junior Tori Green was awarded the Scholastic Gold Key Award for her poem "Captured" and received an Honorable Mention for her poem "Mysterious Pain." 
  • Junior Elise Kang who won a Gold Key for a humor/creative writing piece called "Resistance." 
  • Junior Brian Lee won a Gold Key for his poem “An Astronaut's Epiphany”
  • Junior Jake Permutter won two Gold Keys and an Honorable Mention for critical essays entitled “Nature's Triumph Over Machinery,” “Societal Law in the Scarlet Letter: An Inescapable Force” and “The American Man: Opportunism Born from Disadvantage.” 
  • Senior Yasmine Ali was awarded the Scholastic Silver Key Award for her writing portfolio "My Literary Bohemian Rhapsody" 
  • Senior Sabrina Jacobs was awarded the Scholastic Silver Key Award for her short story "Home" in addition to an Honorable Mention in Journalism for her articles for the Northern Star entitled "Biden Sends out Call to Action to High School, College Students" and "NVD Students Past, Present Make it Big on Small Screen." 

These students’ works were chosen out of 320,000 works submitted nationwide in a competition to honor students with exceptional artistic or literary talent.
