The 2016 N.J. High School Film Festival is calling all high school filmmakers to submit their work for the chance to win college scholarships.
The submissions, which are due April 29, can be in a number of categories, including comedy, non-fiction, PSA, music video, animation, experimental and the themed category, “Tomorrow is Another Day.” Films are to reflect the stories, styles and experiences of today’s teens.
Each of the films nominated for the contest will be announced on May 9.
According to organizers, the festival, now in its third year, provides a “unique opportunity for high school-age aspiring filmmakers to showcase their work in an exciting and supportive environment.”
Last year’s event highlighted 25 short films selected from more than 300 entries.
The event's red carpet celebration is set for 6 p.m. on May 19 at Cresskill High School on Lincoln Drive. Screenings and awards will begin at 7 p.m.
Those selected as winners will receive a $100 scholarship grant. The filmmaker whose work wins the First in Festival award will receive a $250 scholarship grant.
“We are excited about this year’s film festival submissions,” says N.J. High School Film Festival Coordinator Shane Kress “It’s wonderful that so many aspiring teen filmmakers share a passion for storytelling through video production and this festival provides a fun environment to showcase their films. It’s going to be a blast!”
